This practice note overview sets out the key hot topics for the UK financial services industry, and links to separate hot topics practice notes for each of the topical issues identified.

Each of the separate hot topics notes outlines a particular topic, tracks its development and sets out the milestones for future development. In addition, each note contains links to key primary source material and related PLC Financial Services legal updates.

In addition, for certain key government and FSA papers, PLC Financial Services has produced one-off  notes summarising the key elements of these papers. For ease of reference, these notes are listed in a table in this note.

Introduction to this practice note overview

This practice note overview sets out the key hot topics for the UK financial services industry. Each of the hot topics identified is outlined in a separate note, which can be accessed using the links in the tables below.

Each note tracks the development of the topic covered and, where relevant, sets out milestones for future development in the relevant area. These notes also contain links to key primary source material and related PLC Financial Services legal updates and notes. They are not intended to be exhaustive lists of all relevant materials published by interested parties.

Hot topics

The hot topics covered by the notes listed below relate to:

  • The FSA's key supervisory priorities. These priorities are designed to address the key risks to the FSA's statutory objectives and strategic aims that have been identified through the FSA's risk framework.

  • The government's key priorities relating to the consumer credit sector.

  • Areas of financial services regulation where changes (that is, changes to applicable EU or UK laws, regulations or FSA rules) are either proposed or anticipated. Where relevant, the notes consider global initiatives which are likely, or have the potential, to impact upon the UK financial services industry.
